Mojave Road Photos - 2008
3/18/2008
I just got back from a 130 mile drive through the Mojave Desert along the Mojave Road. Our group was huge, with 22 vehicles and 40 people. I don't think we lost anyone along the way. Everyone had a good time. I didn't have enough time to take as many photos as I wanted too, but here's what I got:Labels: family, friends, off-road

Christmas in New York City
1/09/2008
My parents took us to New York City for Christmas. It was a really fun trip. In no particular order, here are the things we saw and did:
- Looked at Rolexes for $25 in Chinatown, watch out for the cops
- The old Yankee Stadium, to be torn down soon
- Times Square madness
- East Village hipster central
- 7 floors of Macys
- Dozens of street musicians and subway artists
- Ground Zero - giant hole in the ground
- Assault rifles and police on Wall St.
- One neighborhood in the Bronx (lets get back on the train)
- Ice skating with hundreds of kids in Central Park on Christmas
- Freezing cold boat ride around the city at night
- Seeing the city from the top of Rockefeller Center.
- Watching the Lion King on Broadway
- Watching the old fashioned Rockettes show on Christmas
- Walking all the way across Manhattan in the rain at midnight just because
- A couple of crazy taxi rides
- Ran through a Brooklyn Ghetto
- One really snooty modern art museum
- Wandered through Times Square on New Years Eve
- Breakdancers in Columbus Circle
Photography
10/22/2007
This week I was inspired to take a second look through the tens of thousands of photographs that I have taken over the last few years. I picked out my favorites to create my own amateur photography portfolio.
Photography has been a hobby of mine since I took a class back in high school. Normally I am a very analytical person, so photography pushes me to work on my creative side. That is always a challenge for me.
My friends know that I love to combine photography with almost every other experience in my life, so it's always exciting and there's always something new to work on.
Enough of that, take a look...

Kickin It in the Backyard
6/10/2007
We had a little fiesta at my parents' house this weekend. They just finished their backyard, so it's a fun place to hang out. A few pics are here.Parents in Panama
4/09/2007
Here are some pictures taken from a live web cam today of my parents going through the Panama Canal on a cruise ship. Google Earth says that they are roughly 2,962.56 miles away from me right now, which is probably the farthest they've ever been from home. Time to throw a party.Labels: family
Our visit to Springville
9/09/2006
Picture yourself an hour north of Bakersfield, California. You turn onto a highway towards the Sequoia National Forest (and not much else), but you exit into the sleepy little town of Springville. Population: 1,000.Jessica and I spent Labor Day weekend visiting this strange place.
In Springville, the folks are really friendly, but they live life at a different pace than we do here in Orange County. There's no pretentiousness -- they are sincere and geniune. But they are different.
Here are some quotes that I collected from Springville:
- "The mud feels good between your toes, and it's good for your athlete's foot" - heard on the shores of Lake Success, Springville's very own Lake Havasu.
- "Hey kids, stop throwing rocks!" - Jessica's own words when she woke up to see barefoot kids in tighty whities throwing fistfuls of rocks at each other in the street. She thought it was funny until one of them took cover near her car.
- "There was a mouse in the sink. He was dead though. A beer can fell on his head". - No comment.
- "You have nice legs. They'd look really good if you were a girl" - A compliment I received from the old lady who ran the "Springville Zoo and Garage Sale". Uhhh, thanks.
